ScanMyJunk (“we,” “us”) helps you photograph second-hand items, get an AI resale-price estimate, and organize them into collections. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
Information you provide
• Account: your email address and a securely hashed password.
• Photos & items: pictures you take or upload of your items, and the details we derive from them (name, category, condition, estimated price).
• Profile: an optional display name and profile photo.
How your photos are used
When you scan an item, the photo is sent to our appraisal service to identify it and estimate a resale price. Price estimates are AI-generated approximations for your convenience — they are not offers, guarantees, or professional valuations.
How we use information
We use your information to provide the app: to appraise items, run your account, sync your collections if you sign in, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
• Email: we use an email provider to send verification and password-reset emails.
• Appraisal: we use an AI/vision service to process the photos you scan.
They handle your data only to provide these functions. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect users.
Retention & deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and collections from our servers. Some records may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.
Security
Passwords are salted and hashed, and traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Your choices
You can edit your profile and delete your account at any time. You may also contact us to request a copy or deletion of your data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the effective date above.
